Taming the buzz in a Bassman 135?

To get the complete classic Fender clarity and sparkle, the master volume on my Fender Bassman 135 has to be all the way up on 10, and then the regular channel's volume can be put on 2 or 3. However, putting the master on 10 brings a pretty strong buzz, and I wondered if there's a way to reduce that? If I disabled the master volume, would I get the same clarity of tone through the regular volume control?

I would guess that your amp is in need of some work. That 10 setting should not bring on excessive noise. Bypassing the master would not solve the problem, imo. While the bypass was being done, replacement of the caps and some tubes might be exactly what the amp needs.
