VC Speaker
The original speaker in my '68 VC has developed some cracks in it. Would it be better to buy a new speaker, or have the original reconed? The original is an Oxford, and I could probably find one with better sound. Does reconing change the sound? Thanks.

Not worth a RC
a good selection of 4 ohm speakers out there now..if $$ is a problem; Fender offers a 4 ohm 8" replacement..best price I have seen is from Angela Instruments... less than $50 to your door.

The cost isn't as important as the sound.A local fellow that deals in vintage musical equipment suggested I get it reconed to keep its value. But, since I have no plans to sell, I want something that sounds good.

Call Ted
at webervst.com. Since it's an 8" the choices are much more limited than a 10" or 12." He may be able to re-cone it in a way that will improve the tone.
Personally, I would keep the original in the closet (as is) and buy a Weber. When you're 95 years old and you sell it, the 100% original speaker will bring an extra $2000.00 at the rate Champs ( ok VC here) have been increasing in value.
