I think I have the crackling sound fixed!!!
I tightened the top four screws on the amp cabinet that hold the chasis in (I guess) and the amp hasn't made that crackling sound since. That was two days ago so I think the problem is fixed, I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for everyones help. 2 people suggested tightening the screws and that was the easiest to do first and it seems to have worked!!
You guys are great, Thanks, Debbie p.s. I still may get myself some better EL84's sometime though, some kind of NOS. |

Z designs these amps arround the Groove Tube EL 84-S. These are a slightly stronger version of the JJ el84. They are specially made by JJ, and then re-branded by GT as the EL84-S. You don't have to put NOS el84's tubes in these amps unless you just feel like it. Zac

Glad to hear that worked for you. I was getting pretty frustrated when mine started doing that crackling on the second gig but since tightening the screws it hasnt done it since, and its been over 6 months.
I did lose the power tubes in the middle of a gig at about 3 months old so if youre playing out with it, I would strongly suggest having spare tubes. |
