Anyone got a Peavey Valve King Royal 8

I currently have a Epi Valve Jnr combo, which I have modded and which gives a great tone, at just about the setting where it becomes antisocial to my family, immediate neighbours, and neighbourhood!! I use this amp for jamming with mates, but what I need is a small tube amp that can give a bit more gain at lower volumes. I have considered the Champion 600, but have heard less than glowing reports about it, and am now looking at the Valve King Royal 8 as it has more controls, and a headphone out as well. I love my Valve Junior, but for me it is too loud for home use, and I dont like using pedals.

What are folks opinions on this amp? I have heard that the speaker is not up to much but that is easy enough to change.

I will be using it to put all kinds of guitars through, from wiry Teles to humbucker equipped

I also have an Epi VJ combo, unmodded.

Before I bought it I also tested the C600 and the VK Royal 8. The C600 sounded a bit thin and anemic as compared with the Epi, but still much better than the Royal 8. The latter sounded rubbery (speaker?) and the preamp distorsion was fizzy.
So, even if you swap the speaker, you will still have fizzy distorsion.
