While the Internet is a wonderful tool to discover 'stuff' you'd never find in your own backyard, this is evidence of the downside to the Internet. Unfortunately, you cannot have one without the other. Whether it's information or finding a part to restore your Edsel, the Internet has it all. On the other side of the coin, there are people who take advantage of the inbred myths and wive's tales out there. But don't blame the seller. Just as flies do not create garbage, sane and rational people did not make eBay the cess pool it is.
I have a wooden nickel that says those tubes are noisy. And another nickel says the buyer won't give a rat's arse. At $255 a tube (plus shipping from Germany), he'll only hear the sweet, sweet music they make .

I wish I had known how much those tubes are worth. I just put 2, just like them, in my 69 VC. Same brand. I bought them at a local "Junk Store", thats the name of the place. I think I paid about $3.00 a piece for them. I guess my Vibro-Champ Amp just increased in value.

If you're interested in those tubes.........

You may need this service for all the wires in your amp. I could do it for a fraction of what this "audiophile" dream maker wants. HA HA.
Audiophilia never ceases to amaze me.

Well maybe this is insane, but mind you these are ECC803S tubes, not the garden variety ECC83 (12AX7A).

These are special quality, long-life tubes and in the 1970's when a new Telefunken ECC83 cost $3 these were about $35. I have seen them lately going for over $200 apiece pretty regularly. Now that Telefunken ECC83's often go for above $25 average, this price even seems in proportion. BTW these are the model for the JJ 12AX7A/ECC83 (only those don't have the special quality features like long-life cathode coating etc).

Dang I was stupid not to buy some of those in the 1970's when I was (a stupid) kid.

re special long life tubes

I know they are a special tube, but bottom line - do they "sound" any better than a std Telefunken? or other quality 12ax7 / ECC83?
I can buy a LOT of good tubes for the price that this one pair sold at.
FWIW Uncle Spot - an amp tech in CA did a 12ax7 new production tube shootout, it's supposed to be in the next issue of some tube magazine and on his website.
Will be interesting to see how they compare.
Some of the best new 12ax7's I've used are one of the Ruby Chinese made tubes, though even those have changed since I got them.

Actually, that buyer got a better price compared to a previous auction:

Same bidder who won the auction in your link is also bidding in this current auction:
