Help With Deluxe Reverb RI Strangeness

Hi,
I'm a new member. I recently bought a Fender Custom Classic and a deluxe reverb re-issue. I love both...but I have found that when I get the volume up around 3 1/2 or higher and have the guitar on the neck pickup, or any neck bridge combination, some strange thing happens. Notes around the 7th fret of the 5th string sound odd and pitchy. My ear hears "wrong notes" and an odd sort of resonance. A tuner reading the pitch coming through the speaker shows the notes are fretting in tune but my ear perceives the notes as out of tune. The E flat on the 6th fret sound almost like the E on the 7th. Sounds horrible!
I have carefully intonated the tele. This weirdness doesn't happen below a certain volume and it doesn't happen with the bridge pup.
Does this sound familiar to anyone.
Thanks for any info.
Mike

Welcome to the TDPRI. There are some really smart people here and one of them will likely know exactly what this is.

I'm not one of them. Sounds like maybe some weird overtone. Have you tried lowering the neck pickup a little?

Sounds like crossover distortion from the notorious cold bias on the DRRI's. Can you take it back to where you bought it and ask them to properly bias the power tubes?

hmmm, is the drri brand new? could be cone cry.... if so, you just need to break the speakers in and it will go away. (usually)

If not, do you have a fan on anywhere near the amp? if so, turn it off and/or move the amp. describe the amp's location in the room and where you are sitting or standing to hear it......

weird ones are fun!

Yes the drri is new. Bought it just before christmas and it probably has 10 or fifteen hours of playing time on it, almost all at a real low volumes sitting in my kitchen.
I have taken the amp from one room to another including a nice big room, wondering if there was some acoustical thing going on. It acts the same wherever it is.
Thanks,
MG
