Hmmm.Marshall solid state eh?well I havent had any direct experience with an AVT20, but years ago I owned one of their tube preamp/solid state power stage amps - & it sucked big time.like, it seemed like there was a pedal in between my guitar & the amp that was sucking the life out of it, truly a case of sounded ok in the showroom sounded crap @ home - I amost could'nt GIVE the damn thing away.More recently I was chasing a solid state amp & tried out an AVT100 & it had a similar thing going for it, imho.
I settled on a hughes & kettner club reverb - a real gem of an amp if you ask me, not too pricey, great clean & lead channels. They arent listed on the website anymore, but If you could pick one of these up, Id reccomend that.

I have an AVT20. A friend of mine gave it to me at a time when I had no amp and zero money. My mother always told me that if I can't say anything nice about something...
The chassis is now stripped and sitting on my bench. It is going to be rebuilt as a 1/2 watt sub-miniature tube amp as time and money permits. IMHO, there are plenty of much better solid-state (it's solid-state, don't let that 12ax7 fool you) amps around for little money. |

Me too.
I've got an AVT20 and all I can think that it's good for is as a good looking Marshall box to put a low powered amp into. the only problem there is what to do with all the knobs and jacks! You can barely even sell it for $100!

I'm considering a variation of this 1/2 ~ 1 watt circuit: http://jonanderson.mn.googlepages.com/5902 With a black-face style tone stack and adjustable NFB. I just need the time and money. |
