new (old) silvertone, way tweedy

well, so I was out with some family in my parents' small town, and stopped in the only known music shop and found a '63 Silvertone 1482 (with the square cutout in the baffle) in great condition at a fair price. couldn't help myself, so picked it up. 15w, original tubes, jensen c12r speaker. I've been starting to GAS for a tweed deluxe-inspired amp.... this near-clone w/ trem (tremolux?) is just about perfect. gave it a good workout this evening in the basement: fantastic! can't wait to see how it does at band practice next weekend.

anyway, just had to share.

Silvertone 1482

Got one. Wonderful amps! Great for recording and they love Tele's :)

Check out this YouTube clip. This guy cracks me up. He's playing a Strat but you kind of get the idea.

Enjoy the amp. Earlier one's had a funky Fischer speaker. You got a good one with the Jensen

i've got one too, a '62....

i.m.h.o. their only weak point is the cab....i replaced the 1/8" paper/fibreboard baffle in mine with some 3/4" 7 ply and mounted a new Jensen....it's a really sweet amp with my archtops, absolute perfection...

Disconnect the internal speaker and plug it into an extension cabinet,. It's absolutely amazing how much better it sounds. The cabinet is way too shallow for the tone the amp is capable of generating.

Very underrated amp.

thanks for the ideas -- I've got to say this little amp doesn't have much to apologize for as-is. baffle replacement particularly will be worth checking into. y'all know what they look like, but I'll try to post a pic or two before long.

I love 'em - they're what I started with, Uncle Lou had both the 1472 with the wood handle and the 1482 with the regular handle. It's amazing to think that I actually was loaned such an amazing combination - the Black 1446 Thinline with the minis was part of it to begin my musical odyssey.
Talk about Rockabilly/Soul Heaven!!!

Congratulations!

How's the trem? The 6AU6 pentode oscillator tube really intrigues me.

Sounds good to me... and browsing around online, I've seen only positive opinions of the tremolo. Anyway, back to playing :-)

I've wanted one of those for a while...I have a pair of 1484's, but I always thought that a 1482 would be a useful addition to my collection...that clip is pretty cool sounding...I might start searching for one again...

I love mine. Retubed a while back, but still have the pulls with the "Silvertone" logo.
