Jimmy Page & 30 Watt Orange heads
http://cache1.gettyimages.com/xc/783...399EB08074FA49
Anybody who thinks that small wattage amps can't get it done need to look at this pix from the recent Led Zep reunion concert... I've always said that the el84 marshall based 18 watters absolutely nail the "wound up plexi" tone but at a far lower volume and it would appear that Page thinks the same thing. These orange ad30's are 4xel84's.... |

The amp is most likely being mic'd through the PA as well, so there is really no point in having huge stacks these days other than for the visual effect. The other guitarist in the band I am in wants to get a full stack in case we miraculously have an arena rock show the next day (though we need play somwhere other than the practice space first), and thats just ridiculous these days because no matter what size amp you have, they can mix it into the monitors and mic it through the PA.

I saw him with the Black Crowes a few years ago. An Orange and a Marshall stack. Page was astoundingly fantastic that night and his tone (as well as the Crowes') could not have been better. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

I'd venture to guess that it's a compromise between an AC-30 and a Marshall. He used an AC-30 along with other amps on the Plant and Page tour. An Orange head and Marsahll cabs probably get him in the zone. He also used a "Jimmy Page model" Marshall and a couple of "Petersburg" amps that were made in Russia from what I've read. And they weren't Orange amps, they were "OR GE" amps.

Y'know, didn't he use Orange heads along with Marshall heads and cabs back in the 70's as well? I coulda swore I seen him using the exact same setup in the pics from the old days.
During the Firm tours he was supposedly using the same Marshall heads that Jimi used at Isle of Wight, only beefed up to 180 watts each ( I was really happy to hear ol' Pagey do well! I haven't heard anyone doing any Page-bashin' about his performance the other night. I think he was out to prove himself that night. The boy did good!

Not that my playing style or expertise is anything whatsoever like Page's, but this is exactly why I ended up with an Orange Rocker 30... it's right between a Vox and Marshall tone. |

When you've got that little hair left, its time to cut it short. He just looks like a transient.
I love Orange amps. I used one on a gig once (a combo amp... dont know what it was) and it was loud and clean with very tight bass response. It was also was so heavy I couldn't even get it on the stage by myself. |
