Either or both these SFTs
![]() I rarely take them out anymore though, they've gotten a lot heavier in recent years. I still use them a lot in the studio for a clean sound, and often in conjunction with a small Gibson Maestro for dark saturation and a Fender Champ for bright saturation. ![]() ![]() I've been taking a Peavey VK112 to clubs, conventions etc., it's light, it does the job just fine and I don't worry about it. |

sounds like a snobby comment, but the most impressive amp I've played through for clean, with a telecaster, was a white twin with two ceramic Utah speakers. A dealer/collector friend had one for a short while, very impressive amp, and I didn't think it would be - it wasn't "just a twin without reverb".

Hi fellow Mk111 player,
I also use a Mk111, have done since '93, up until now with mainly humbucker guitar's, rock and blues. I have recently rediscovered the good ole' tele and am looking for that clean fender type tone. I wondered if you play a tele through your's what sort of settings you use? King regards, Rick

easy...
71 silver face twin reverb. turn it up to 6... louder than you can imagine and NO DISTORTION. clear as a bell. never was able to get to the distortion point without running the risk of ruining my hearing. used pedals for comp and overdrive... even had a master volume. sold it 4 years ago to an 18 year old. told him if he wanted distortion, definately use a pedal... or he would ruin his hearing. i think he believed me, too. i hope so. imho. rand z tropicalsoul.net |

I've owned and played through many amps that sounded good in certain situations, but I sat in one time with my 68 Tele thin line, playing traditional country, and they plugged me in-to a Music Man 210..Best I've ever heard MY Tele sound for that genre..PJ...

I have to say my 69 SF Princeton (non-reverb) is the best I've heard. Defeat the tremolo circuit with a pedal or shorted RCA connector and even fully cranked up, it's STILL clean with a 12ax7 . It records beautifully.

Clean
Two come to mind from my past.
1) I had a 1965 black face Deluxe Reverb with a Jensen Lifetime 12" in it. It was mint, clean and tight. 2) I had a Guild amp. I don't know the year but I bought it in 1969 when I found it buried( brand new in the box) in the basement of a music store I worked at in a Spring cleaning. It had a wierd "flesh" colored tolex cover with a brownish gril. The Guild logo was cut dull steel kinda like the early Fender ones. It had a 10" speaker probably 15 watts tremelo and reverb. It had low and high inputs. You could not hurt it. It was very clean and when you pushed it it got creamy overload smooth. I sold the first amp and the Guild was stolen. It's funny I'll bet more than half the amps talked about here are not still with the person wrting about them. Gary |

I've owned a 64 SR for ages, and the clean tone is exceptional. I've been toying with the idea of selling it (there was a discussion about it on another thread) but probably will hang onto it after all.

The best clean sounding amp I ever spent time with was an early 70's Plush P1000S mated to a Plush 215 cab, all in glorious pea-green sparkle tuck and roll Naugahyde. I owned it in the mid to late 70's and it sounded round warm fat thick sweet and had an amazing amount of clean headroom. Although it was destroyed in a bar fight in Bulls Gap TN in 1979, and I have never been able to get those dulcet tones out of my head.

BANDSTAND "The Spirit of '56"
Bird Brothers. 15" speaker, 12AY7 valve through 4XEL34 ![]() I think it's a UK made, at least 20 years old. Think Lou Reed had two of these a long time ago. It has two wired separated channels: 1- with 12AY7 2- with 12AX7. Treble, middle and bass EQ and master volume. The bird brothers speaker gives an awesome punch. I couldn't find anything about this amp on internet. If anybody knows anything about this amp, please, send me a private message. Thanks!

GARYinBoston - O owned that same Guild amp back in the late 80's - early 90's actually now that I think about it, I sold it 1996. It was the coolest little amp and I'd give anything to have it back. I think I either bought it at a pawnshop, or used at a music store, but it was better than any champ I've ever played. Guild hit one out od the park with that little pulsating beauty. My pals used to laugh at it because it looked like a kitchen appliance from the early 60's. Mine evan still had the schematic paperwork inside. What a LIL gem. I used to love that amp for slide on a strat. The little thing did get hot though. If I only knew then what I know now.....okay, I still don't know much,, but that was one killer amp and a rare find. Think I paid 150 bucks for it!!!!Sold it for 250-300!!!!
