Goodsell Trio o' Amps

Three lovely Goodsells, an original Goodsell Clairmont Super Seventeen in Baby Blue (#0015) 1-12, i use for small room gigs and it started my love affair w/ Richard's amps. The Red is a Goodsell 22 Delux (#2 of the build) 2x12, though designed for 6V6s, I'm using 6L6s (cathode biased) for the extra headroom and less compression. Richard didn't like these amps and discontinued the line, I love mine. It was my main gigging amp until,...

The flagship Goodsell Custom 33 2x10 with reverb and tremolo, the first one w/ rev & trem in a top mounted controls cab,... wow. I play pretty clean and the headroom on the 33 is outstanding and still has that lush, touch sensitive thing that the Goodsells are known for. I can plug straight into any of these amps on a gig and I love the sound, it's inspirational actually. It has two different 10" spkrs, a Ragin' Cajun and a Cooperhead.

Included in the photo are my two #1's.

He didn't like his Delux 22, the builds were not consistent sounding enough for Richard. I auditioned a couple 22 when I got mine and bought the one I thought sounded better, I thought it was the difference in speakers. Private Jacks (in mine) vs. UK Heritage Greens.

I don't know his total 22 output but it's most likely just a handful of amps. I don't care for the sound of the 22 w/ the 6V6s and my teles (too bright and compressed) but w/ 6L6s, it sings.

5 watter?

Do you guys know what ever become of the 5 watt amp he was working on? I emailed him about a year ago and he said should be soon. I don't even see it mentioned anymore on his site. Also, does the el84 amps sound similar to a Vox sound?

He did a limited run of the 5 watters, around a dozen I believe, they were sold before they were built and he doesn't plan on building any more. I think he found the cost of the build was very close to a Super 17 and it didn't make any sense to continue the model.

Richard's preamp is his design. it's similar to other EL84 amps but has it's own sound. Very pure, not gainy, very touch sensitive.
