Take a read through this thread and you'll have more information than you can possibly use.

Lately, I've been digging my new Sennheiser e906, without a stand (doesn't need one most of the time).

Any short mic stand will do. There aren't usually any special requirements.

There'll be dozens of suggestions, but an SM 57 is near enough standard. Also used SM 58s though they're more looked on as vocal mics.

Stand wise it depends on the room you've got. Frequently the cable looped around the amp handle & hung down the front does the trick, though there'll be lots of opinion otherwise.

thanks for the thread blue, think i,ll go for a 57. what about cables? and after reading the thread think a stand would give me more options on positioning. a short boom with solid base is there a standard for amps?

Ron Wood's amps and SM57 micing in 2007, Bigger Bang tour

Keith's amps and micing in 2003 Licks Tour(same applies to Ron of course)

I tell ya, the Bigger Bang Tour has the better guitar sounds of my heroes.
The licks tour (with expensive equipment) featured far too much keyboards - lol !!

sm-57 & Z-bar...

Shure SM-57 with a Z-bar is my favorite combination...

Z-bar...frees up some room on a tight stage!
