Supro/Valco/Gretsch?

Anybody out there have one of these? I'm looking at a 6121. Anybody know anything about them? Thanks.

The latest issue of ToneQuest Report (August 2007) has an in depth article about the Supro/Valco/Oahu amps (a model by model breakdown). It's a follow up to an earlier issue (April 2002). Scope them out.

My friend has an old Gretsch amp; might be a 6121. It has OVAL speakers.

Anything you want me to as him about it?

I've got an old Supro with two 6l6s and one 15. The chassis holding the power tubes is in the base of the cabinet and the controls are up top. Sickest tremolo you've ever heard, and I mean that in the good way. I'm not sure of the model number. All I know is it kills. Great lo-fi tone. If you have chance to pick one up to add to your tonal palette, do it. Very cool amps.

I've got a Thunderbolt (S6420) - Killer amp w/ Teles or P90s! I had a 6121 w/ the oval speakers a long time ago they're wonderful & are my fave small Supro.

I knew a guy who had a Supro Big Star S6551 - basically a Supro version of a Princeton. It was an amazing amp, but constantly in the shop. I think that may have been particular to his amp, though - everything else I've heard has been positive. I can't say enough about the tone he got out of the amp with a Tele - round and dirty! He got it before the vintage craze hit so strong, back when people still wanted pointy-head guitars and solid-state amps, so it cost him about $200. Lucky dawg...

I don't think there was a 6121 AMP, there was a guitar though. What are its features, speaker size, tube component? Do you mean 6151?

I love Gretsch amps, and most Valco amps. That's all I play. Most are pretty different sounding than equivalent Fenders.
