I've tried JJ/Tesla 6L6's, didn't really like them. I do not like JJ's in general, but their 6V6's are my favorite 6V6's.
I currently have a few sets of SED Winged C 6L6's that I really like. I also like ElectroHarmonix 12AX7's... never try the Ei Elite Gold 12AX7's... out of the 4 I bought 2 were microphonic and 1 was noisey. What is currently in the amp, and what are you aiming for in tone? |

The Boob Toobz 6L6chp is not the JJ. It's Chinese.
You've read these are recommended for a DeVille? By who? Boob Toobz themselves? LOL. Don't fall for the hype and Pittman's BS. Buy from a supplier who advertises here on TDP, and get a set of =C= or JJs. I personally like the JJ 6L6. |

It has to be a Groove Tubes or Fender recommendation - since Fender uses Groove tubes as standard ware.
What Trem said - JJ's. But before that - why? What's lacking with what you have, and what are you aiming for, as Johnny asked? You can spend a lot of money chasing tone when there's nothing wrong with what you have, you just "think" it'll be better because of some marketing department statements. In other words, only change them if you NEED to.

yeah, i'm not overly excited over the whole groove tube thing, but the info was on the kca nos tubes site, along with a couple others. they recommend these for the deluxe/devilles and that's my question----why? i'll have to call kca nos and see what they say-

Fender uses BT in order to get themselves out of the tube sourcing and screening business. Tubes is not FMIC's business, they make guitars and amps. Tubes is a distraction to their business model. They made the right decision to pass all that off onto someone else, with which they have a deal for discounted prices and reduced screening. The tubes BT supplys to FMIC do not have the same level of testing and screening that the normal retail BT products have. And yes, if it ain't broke, don't fixit. |
