tighting up tube sockets or adding holders ?

my siverface deluxe has some older power tubes, i tried a set of JJ,s they fit a lot looser, how are tube sockets tighted, or can the holders be added somehow like on the newer DRRI amps ?

JJ had made some tubes with smaller diameter contact pins than 'normal'. The smaller diameter pins causes a loose fit in the socket.

You might want to measure them....as compared to the other tubes.

First, you'll need to be sure the caps are drained in the amp. while not ideal, unplug the amp from the wall and turn both the on and standby switches to on. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.

Next, remove the 6V6s and look into the socket holes. You'll see that there is an interference fit female section for each pin. Using a small rigid item (I use the point of a smalll knife or even a compass point) You could even use a round toothpick if you're worried about getting a shock; gently squeeze the socket tighter by bending that section.

I would also add the tube retainers anyway.

That will do the trick.
