I've got a pair in my BFVR and they sound good to me.

They were recommended to me by Mike at KCA NOS Tubes. I think they were about $38 bucks for the two. He's got a good website for comparison shopping.

I own a vintage stereo and guitar amp repair shop. These are the only 6l6's I use, use them in my personal amps also. The JJ's are also fine tubes, but I think they did a better job with their 6V6, which may be the best 6V6's ever.
Winged"C' does it for me.
PS: Get mine from Jon at Tubestore, great people to do business with
PPS: have never had an out of box failure with "Winged C" tubes and I use a lot of tubes.

I like these tubes. They are my favorite of the new production 6L6s. I have used them with great success in my SFVR.

Well, I just pushed the button over at the theTubeStore and bought a pair of Winged "C" (SED) 6L6GC Tubes

Also heard some really good reports on these: Tung Sol 12AX7 and I'm gettin them as well, plus one JAN Phillips 12AT7 in the V1 spot.

I'll give you a full tone report after I get em, and play em for a bit.

Useless in any "Hi-Fi" restoration, but guitar amps are sound production, not reproduction devices.

You're not gonna be disappointed with those 6L6's. I had them in my (recently sold) Hot Rod Deluxe and it was like night and day comparing them to the standard "groove tube" relabelled sovteks...

As much as I love the Winged C's I gotta say the TAD 6L6 WgC's are mighty fine tubes as well. I have A/b'd the Winged Cs to the TAD and a couple sets of old Jan Phillips and the winged C's sounded a touch too bland not quite like a blanket over the amp, but the TADs warmth was much more pleasant to my ears. The C's have a touch more headroom though when cranking the amp.

I had a pair of Winged C 6L6's in my amp and they did sound very nice. Unfortunately, one of them went bad after about 30 hours of use, maximum. I had a few pair of other brands, so I put a set of JJ's in and all is well.

This is not intended as a slam on Svetlana. Any tube can go at any time and I may give them a shot again someday. I admit I was disappointed, though. It may not be considered an out of box failure but that's darn close.

Good luck with your new tubes. I hope they add something to your tone.

PS: I'm using Tung Sol 12AX7's too and they're a great tube. Much nicer than the EH's they replaced.

I have a pair in my 65 super reverb and they're nice in that amp. I just put a pair of TAD small bottles in my BF'd SFVR and so far so good but I have to gig it to see what's up at gig volume.

I thought the Winged C's sounded better for classic country big open twang and the TAD's for newer country with a little sizzle and blues as well.

They have been my main and favorite 6L6 for years. They came "stock" in my Vic 35310T 10 years ago. They were Svetlana then. Best new production 6L6in almost every way IMO. I do like the TAD small bottles in Tweeds too. If I had to pick a 12AX7 it would be the Tung Sol RI.

Well, it sounds like I'm on the right path!

My amp is loaded with NOS tubes. They're tuckered and tired-out NOS, but still NOS tubes. And I got hooked on that NOS tone they provide, with all the harmonic nuances.

But the NOS prices just kill me!

So I have decided to go on this search, and see if I can be satisfied with new production tubes, for far less $$

I should get my 6L6 this week, and the 12AX7's and 12AT7 next week. I'll provide a full tone report.......

Derek, I do as a matter of fact play mostly in the blues idiom so the TAD's should be nice in the vibrolux. Praisecaster, I think you're gonna like the 6L6=C='s and tungsol 12ax7 pres. What amp are you using? JAN Philips NOS 12at7 phase inverter position/reverb driver tubes are priced reasonably.

Believe it or not, I have a hot-rodded Pignose G40V. A friend of mine is an amp-head, and when he looked at the G40V circuitry, he saw the old Fender Bassman circuitry, just tweeked differently. Well he sat down with it, and soon realized he can get it right into Original Plexi Territory. And did he ever!

Here's the schematic diagram with all the mods in red:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...mods120505.gif

Plus, I acquired an old Marshall combo cabinet, put the chassis in there, and wired it up to an EV12

Let me tell you, this is the best combo amp I have ever owned, and I have gotten way more compliments on the tone I get from it, than any other amp I have played through! Its a rockin little amp, and I wanna hang onto it as long as I can.

JAN Phillips tubes are reasonably priced, and thats what I will get

Funny - I had a pair of the =C='s back when they were Svets in the late 90's, and I put them in a G40V that I completely Frankensteined out - it was like a uber-Plexi with the 6L6 power section.

I even blew out an output transformer in that amp, and the 6L6's kept going. I kept them biased between 34 - 38 millivolts, and they sounded wonderful, never made a crackle or pop, and continued to sound good for years afterwards, with heavy usage at high volume.

Unfortunately, I sold the amp that they were last in.

Fortunately, they are still being made, just under the =C= moniker.

A truly bulletproof and gigworthy power tube, IMO.

Yeah, that little amp was too much for me.

I thought the 6L6 section would bring things down a touch - how wrong I was!

I was very hard on that amp, as it was my test bed for so many projects. Nothing in it resembled the original amp, or schematic. I was constantly blowing out parts, having to repair traces to the main board (which is about the size of a stick of computer ram ), caps would fail, and those itsy bitsy pots left so much to be desired...

But at a little over a couple C notes brand new, it was hard to go wrong...

In the end, I had a harp player come over and try it out. You would think I built it for that very purpose, because he sounded wonderful through it. Since it was clearly an amp for him, I sold it on the spot...

I put a Vibroverb OT in mine. Really opened things up.
