5E3 And Other Assorted Letters/Numbers...
...What letters and numbers go with which amps? I know a 5E3 chassis is usually a tweed Deluxe. What are all the other numbers/letters and which amps do they go with? Thanks for educating me.
Tom

The last digit = the amp type
1=champ 2=princeton 3=deluxe 4=super 5=pro 6=bassman 7=bandmaster 8=twin 9=tremolux 10=harvard 11=vibrolux 12=concert 13=vibrasonic 14=showman 15=reverb unit 16=vibroverb The first number = decade [though exceptions exist] 5=50's, 6=60's Middle letter = version. B is is an earlier design than C, etc. Suffix = revision. So a 5E3 is newer than a 5C3, but they're both deluxe's... [the 3 on the end] 5F6 is a "F" model bassman.....newer design than the 5E6 5F6-A is a revisied varient of the 5F6 Does that make sense?

I think with those, they assume you know it's a "Bassman" or a "Deluxe Reverb", and an amp labeled AA864 would be the first version of that circuit released in April, 1964. AB864 (if there was one) would be the first revision of that circuit.
The Blackface Bassman, for example has three versions: AA864, AA165, AB165. I'm not quite sure when AB165 came into production, but I do know that my '68 drip-edge silverface Bassman (never should have sold that amp!) still had that number... Cheers, Tim
