For You Tweed (And Pre-Tweed) Lovers...
...Do yourself a massive favor and check out the sound samples on the Louis Electric website. Tone, tone, tone, to the bone! I'm a jazzy blues/bluesy jazz player and it only took about 2 weeks of listening for me to order a new KR-12. Incredible sounding amps and extremely versatile with 4 different gain stages (these are not tweed clones) that give you anything from glassy Fender cleans to really mean, harmonically rich, fat dripping overdrive loved by my West Coast swing/jump blues brothers. They actually sound more like pre-tweed amps of the 30's and 40's. I'd never even heard of these amps until about a month or so ago and read about Duke Robillard using them. I also looked closely at the Veros. Some of you know Charlie Baty uses them. And I still would like to someday have a Vero 4x10" Chicago Zephyr (they're unbelievable too). But I can only afford one amp at a time, especially in that price range and right now the L.E. KR-12 fits my needs for a versatile amp that can really make my Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster with Lollar P-90's sound rich. Anyway, just thought I'd give ya's a heads up. No connection to Louis Electric...just an anxiously waiting customer.
Tom

Hubert Sumlin uses em too.
The KR-12 doesn't look very tweed... Celestion G12H-30 speakers, EL34 power tubes, multiple gain stages (cascaded?), and a Master Volume. Looks more British flavored. I'm not talking trash at all, I love tweed era Fenders and I build them for myself quite often... and I also love Brit-flavored amps! I'd like to try one of them K-12's out... I'd really love to try out Hubert's model, the HS-M12 (30watt 6L6) too. Their multigain input concepts are interesting. |

Hey Johnny,
I was referring to the circuit design and "sound style". The KR-12 is really kinda' tweed and a little beyond to Marshall in the higher gain stages. Either way the tone is "full of really sweet juice". Tom

Larry,
We'll have to get together after I get the KR-12. You can try it for yourself. Pete, Is there really any such thing as too many tweeds? Tom

HAHA, you're so right Tom! Quote:
"Put you back 3 amps"! HAHAHAHA I bet its very much worth those next three amps though! Are you going to post pics (and maybe some sound clips)? I'd love to hear all the details on how you like it once it arrives. |

Johnny,
You bet. I'll post pics and my review...with all 10's!! LOL! Larry, Sounds like you're working on a sweetun' right now. I'll be anxious to hear it. I've been jonesin' to build something too. It would have to be simple with good instructions though. About all I've done is install speakers in my amps and pu's in my guitars. Yeah maybe we can get together after school starts. I start teaching again at the "U." in August. By the way, Bruce Vander Schel at West Music is installing all new electronics and Lollar P-90's in an Epi '56 Les Paul Goldtop, as we speak. I tried to install the pu's but had trouble getting them both working. The lead had been cut short on one that had been in a Strat, so I tried to solder/splice the lead...didn't work. Bruce will solder a new lead on the pu. I'll pick the guitar up Wed. at West Music in Ottumwa. We'll stay in touch. Tom

Is there really any such thing as too many tweeds?
My last amp build -90% done (I mean LAST, at least for my own use. Getting tired of this by now):
Input and tone stack basically AB763 Twin . Plate coupled, not cathode follower. 5E8 cathodyne style driver with some tweaks. NFB & presence control. Driver stage "Final Tone" control , a la AC30 but with selectible cap value. Hexfred power supply with "sag switch. Cathode biased, alternating NOS Mullard El34's and Winged"C" 6l6's according to mood. Control Layout: Treble-middle-bass- gain -volume- feedback-presence-final tone. Going to run into a 1X12 Deluxe sized cab with a Emminence Cannibis Rex 12. Finally have a amp with the combination of deluxe BF, tweed pro,and AC 30. It actually sounds great for a mongrel bastard amp. Should have pics by next week. Now I never need another amp!! (Until I start looking for a Princeton Reverb SF...........................) ![]()

I have played through two Louis amps and they really are fantastic. Liked then alot better than the Victorias.
BTW, a few months back I saw Sumlin's Louis for sale. It was signed by him and for some reason Seymour Duncan.
