Old Bell & Howell speaker question

I want to run a Peavey 4 ohm non tube amp head into a Bell & Howell 16 ohm either six hundred plus or eight hundred plus watt speaker cab from an old projector.
Would I need anything betwen the amp and speaker because of the difference in ohms? (except the cable)

On the back of the head it saids...

100 w
4 ohms
minim amp load 4 ohms
120 vac
80 mz
300 watts

Thanks,
Colonel Robert

It should be fine just plugged in, but keep in mind you are probably only dealing with about a 15w speaker (most were P12Ps).

With an amp that uses solid state output devices, like transistors.....just never go under what the amp has for a speaker load specification.

Anything above or equal to 4 ohms with your amp will be fine....and let us know what happens!

Thanks to both of you. Though only 15 watts it has a loud sound. And I get a sweet spot by dialing the guitar knobs. Will do a mp3 soon.

Thanks Bill, yes it is.
It's a 68' Hagstrom 1. A friend of mine loaned it to me while we were rebuilding my guitar. I will be sending it back to him soon. Now that I finished the rebuild, my amp crapped out!

Been trying to find a "cheep" solution as we spent our bucks on the rebuild.

So any ideas on getting a amp that can give me that outlaw twang for under $125.00 shipped? Even less would be very welcomed.

My guitar is a very mod MINM (Made In North Mississippi) tele.

It has a lot of twang but also can blues it down!

I don't gig as much anymore so it is for home playing and computer recording.

I know someone has some good ideas. New or used is ok.

Ummm... it's not a field coil speaker is it? Does it have something that looks similar to a transformer attached to it? If it is, I don't think you could use it...

Look into vintage tube PA amps. I have several Bogen amps that have been converted for guitar use that sound great. The conversion is as simple as replacing the input jacks. Then you can tweek them from there as needed. Look on ebay under tube amps and you will find one. Other names are Newcomb, Precision, Masco, Bell & Howell, and RCA. Just check out the tubes and find one with the tubes compliment that is the same as your favorite fender type amp.

I do love the sound of the old tube amps.
