I got to play through a 5C1 in a small studio a while back. Forgot how it sounded though.
Looking at it, I'm interested in building one now... its ridiculously sparse in parts!

Hi,
As some form of comparison I have a 5D1 Champ and a Kendrick 118 (ala 5F1). The 5D1 circuit is basically the same as a 5C1 (Am I right? if not let Big Jimmy know so I don't send him off on a wild goose chase). Quick difference between these is that I would say the 5D1 is a smokier sound wheras the 118 has a brighter sound - that's not to say the 5D1 is muffled but just seems to favour different frequency ranges. It's not as loud as the 5F1 but the 6" verus 8" speaker will acount for some of that. My Champ is in storage right now (due to renovations) but hopefully it can come out of hiding shortly! Most of my playing on these amps is either a 62 reissue Strat or my 52 Telecaster (built from parts) - SD Antiquity pick ups, 4 - way switch and no load tone pot. This has been my fave set up for the last 4 years - does everything. |
