New Vox Amp Day:)

Friggin' GAS....

Say hello to my new Vox AC15 CC. I wasn't looking for a new amp, but just happened to find this a couple of days ago. Gave it a whirl against a Blues Jr, Traynor YCV15 & 20, and a Peavey Classic. I came home with the Vox. To my ears, it absolutley spanks those others. These made in China Vox amps have it going on let me tell ya. It has a nice Celestion Blue speaker. Great amp. Absolutley rocks with my SG, and smokes with my Tele. Thanks to TDPRI member tjalla for making me spend my money!
Now my DRRI has something to play with

I played one of these at GC and loved it. To me, it was the best sounding amp in that price range. Congratulations and enjoy!

Excellent choice, if you ask me, and I know you didn't, but hey...
Love that Vox thing and coupled with DRRI, you'll be able to make some nice noises...

It will sound a drastic amount better after about 50 hours of very loud playing. The Celestion Blue may sound great now, but after it breaks in it will make the current sound seem constipated and cold. Those are great amps. Make sure to run good tubes in it. If you are willing to get NOS ones try Mullards in the preamps and Polams in the power tube slots. Among newly made tubes I'd say EI 12AX7's and EL84s will sound the Voxiest and chimiest if you can find them, the new Russian Tung-sol 12AX7 reissues are also good.

Well, i've put about 3 hours on it cranked, so another 47 to go....
I was fooling around with the reverb & trem tonight. The trem isn't too bad, but the reverb isn't that great. Anything past 9 o'clock is unusable really. I'll have to look into an Accutronics tank i suppose at some point.

Also, I'll have to put new tubes. I hear a slight popping and buzzing, and i suspect it's the stock tubes. I haven't checked what they are yet.
I think i can get EI Elite tubes locally. I've read that the current EH EL84's are close to Mullard's. Any thoughts on Tube Amp Doctor?

heheheh... well, I got mine used from fellow TDPer simonc - so I'm just passing on the love. Congrats on the buy, there's alot of sonic territory btw the tele and the SG with that amp.

fwiw, according to folk at the Weber boards, the part number for the accutronics tank (type 4 medium delay) is 4EB2C1B, although you could change the spring numbers and decay length to suit...

> type 4 - 4 spring
> E -input impedance - 800 ohms
> B - output imp - 2575 ohms
> 2 - medium decay
> C = Input Insulated / Output Grounded
> 1 = No Lock
> B = Horizontal Open Side Down (mounting orientation)

See http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/prodspec.htm

Oops! Making you spend money again. At least in only $30 if you do

Stereo tremolo??

I'm curious how that rig would sound with both amps trems on, at different depths/rates? Also, there's some cool blending/switching tonal options you could do with that setup - although one of the DRRI channels would prob be out of phase with the Vox.

At the last blues gig on Tues, I used my AC15CC together with my Tone King - pretty cool. The sound was more chimey and 'spanky' as I was relying on the Vox for dirt, and the TK just breaking up, so it retained pick attack, and overall everything cleaned up very nicely with the vol knob. Felt nice and wide too, having 3x12" speakers moving air onstage.

Keep us posted if you try mixing the amps...
