I love you, you love me...
I just finished my 18-watt cabinet and got the whole thing together. For some reason, the pics make the amp look blue. I've tried several different locations at different times of day, but the purple isn't coming through. Anyway, here 'tis...

Thanks, Telenator. I tried messing with the color on my computer, but that's not my thing, ya know?
Larry, I'll see about getting some gut pics. Ceriatone actually did the wiring. Them wiring it only cost $60, and I figured I had enough on my plate already, so... aznrambo481, I made the cab myself. It's a more-involved affair than making a tweed Fender cabinet, but I learned a lot. The speaker is a Celestion G12H-30. One more pic. Lester likey...

Hmmm... I'm wondering, what is that thing you're holding in your hands? It looks like it could be a guitar, but the pickups and headstock are all wrong. I don't want to jump to any conclusions...
But seriously... Nice amp. I can't wait until I move to a place where I can try to build a few cabinets (in a condo for the moment).

Hey Drew, I'm considering learning how to build cabinets myself. The covering aspect scares me--how difficult was it?

It sounds like a Marshall! Obviously, it isn't going to have the girth of a Bluesbreaker or JTM-45 through multiple 12s, but that tonality is there. The cab is the same size as Marshall's 1974X and has that clarity. It's pretty balanced across the frequencies and there are a lot of great places to stop along the volume control. The tremolo is really good, and, while I won't probably use it much, it's there.
This is the third cabinet I have built. The first is a stained narrow-panel Deluxe cabinet with poly topcoats. The second, which I finished about a month ago, is a narrow-panel Deluxe in tweed with shellac topcoats. Barney was the toughest because of all the extra components and the way they go together. Covering isn't a simple thing or a particularly fun thing, but it offers good lessons in applied geometry and problem solving. Tolex isn't tough to work with. The trick is figuring out how to cut it for the insides of curves (control cutout and vent, in this case). If you want to practice before you start in with Tolex, you could get some cheap vinyl at a fabric store and practice on surrogate panels to figure out the cuts. Then again, you could do as I usually do and learn as you go: "Whoa, that happened. How am I gonna make that disappear?"
