the "amp position in space"-riddle
i always learn something new: had the amp on a flightcase neatly sitting in a corner of the rehearsal place, and it made some harsh trebly noises. then i removed it for half a meter with the back flat to the wall in a distance of 30 cm and all the harsh stuff is gone. i can hardly believe that. sound is a puzzle of so many inconsistent factors, it can drive you nuts.

It always pays to move open backed amps around a bit. A little way off a hard reflective surface will usually fill the sound out a bit. I was told by a bandmate once that he was impressed by the way I positioned my amp for the best tone, I just thought I was putting it somewhere I wouldn't fall over it.
