Blown Twin Reverb Speaker
I've got a silverface Twin and one of the speakers has finally rotted. I guess my 4 months with that punk/garage band might have taken a toll. Probably on my eardrums too.
Anyways, it's all stock up to now, but I was hoping someone might recommend a replacement speaker that will maintain that sweet fender tone. Also, should I go ahead and replace them both, or just the one that's busted? |

If you liked the tone you were getting, consider getting the blown one reconed. If not, replace both. If you liked it but want to maybe try something new, just replace the one; many people swear by mismatched speakers giving a more complex sound.

Been there, done that with my 73 twin. The original JBL's had seen their better days. I went shopping & checking and found out that the Jensen clones I had gotten some time back from MCM Electronics worked quite well. I honestly can't tell much difference in the old JBL's as verses the replacements. Best of all I saved a boat load of money.

Jensen Reissues and Weber's work very well.

i'll check into the jensen's and weber's. I'm partial to eminence (because they are made about 25 mins from my house) so I'll probably look into those too.
I don't think this one can be blackfaced....it's a '77 which I think makes it difficult. Anyway, I'm not looking to sink a lot of money into it. I paid $250 to buy it and $150 to have it recapped/tubed. I've been thinking of getting rid of it and my blues junior and getting a Deluxe Reverb of some sort. That would kind of be inbetween the two, but then again, I don't really like getting rid of stuff (I used to have a 65 DRRI that I wish I hadn't traded) so I may just save up and keep the one's I have. Guess it can't hurt to keep a Twin lying around. |

UPDATE:
Not 3hrs after I wrote the above post, I went to the guitar shop and played a DRRI. Not 30 seconds into playing I decided I would DEFINITELY trade the two amps for it, which I did. Don't regret it at all. Tone is great: clean and bouncy, breaks up on the top, and it didn't break my back carrying it up the stairs. Yay me! |
