as an amp builder {retired!!}, i admittedly see things in a different light. yes, i understand that this guy has to make a profit, but for that kind of selling price....well, i've never seen the attraction!

if this kind of project looks like fun and if you have the knowledge / skillset to finish the wiring, then why not make your own board from scratch?

the G10 board can be had for a couple of bucks. yo can even get it cut to your size by any number of wholesalers....even so, it's the most expensive component by far & will still be less than $20.

eyelets...mouser catalog. something like 1.7 cents each as i recall.... you drill the holes, shove them through & peen them over with almost any kind of wide-face punch & a ballpean hammer. idiot simple.

all components will add up to less than $50....again mouser catalog.

standoffs, wire, solder....add $10

if you have an amp that needs a new board, don't buy....make! the satisfaction is greatly increased!

"Tonal Upgrade Till You Vomit" really, that's an options section title...and 135 bucks for an assembled AB763 board, 50 for a 5E3 and 35 for a Champ, it's tempting to give a Malaysia a shot, not much money at risk. (The bigger risk is: another shelved hobby project gathering dust).

I´m a bit tempted tp try the AB763. I´ve been on the look out for some snake oil ( :? ) to trow my money at, and at that price I´m not going to be ruined if it turns out to be a scam. Alltough I like my amp right now (63 Vibroverb RI) I would like to have a PTP board in it so maby the Deluxe Reverb board could be inserted in my amp. That would make it more like a BF Vibrolux I guess. I´ll talk to my local amp guy...

All the same

I read somewhere that all the black-face 2-channel Fender reverb amps use the same board. So theoretically you could use the same board with the DR, VR, SR, TR, and whatever-else-R. Don't know if it's the truth, though.

Missing the fun

Mate

Get a board from where ever e.g. Weber.

Get the diagram and order the parts and populate it your self.

With these skills learned on can then use difference type of capacitors and resistors and hear the tonal difference !

I did so and have no regrets and be ahead by miles instead of buy stuff.

Regards

Paul

Just be warned - as Mark Norwine says building an amp is not the cheapest way to get a good one. It is fun, and can keep you harmlessly occupied for hours (I know)provided you treat the high voltages with respect and care.

Plus it feels great when people come up and say 'What is that amp? It's only 18 watts - no way!'.

Not trying to start a war here but...

Mark, while you may be right about the pricing, it would be less expensive for me (in Canada) to purchase the completed board from Malaysia if I want to build a Tweed Deluxe or Champ. It's my understanding that Mouser wants a minimum order of $100 to ship across that invisible barrier we call the border.

Just my $.02.

Gord.
