SFVR reverb springs too sensitive to vibrations?

Been meaning to ask for help on this one for a while....

Seems like the reverb springs in my SFVR are overly sensitive to external vibrations and start making this clacking sound that builds up and gets louder even after the source of the vibration has stopped - it lasts for 3 or 4 seconds, then fades away. Even someone just walking (not stomping) across the stage can set it off. Do I need to get the tray out and tighten the spring tension or something?

be kinda fun if I was in a surf band.

Rob,
Buy a new tank.
They are very affordable, around $20.

Suggestion: get a 6 spring tank for deeper, richer sounding reverb.

Rob, check inside the tank first. I know of one that was doing this (on a Twin) and it turned out the springs inside got unhooked and were hanging loose. Easy fix.

Good call. Looked like one of the springs had been damaged at some stage and the tension wasn't as good as the others.

Luckily, I managed to borrow a tank with the same specs from another amp I don't use that much while I look into getting a replacement spring. It sounds fantastic now, can't wait to gig it again.

A good source for the springs is the old Birko type jugs where the element is bolted to the top of the ceramic or plastic jug and dips down into the water inside. I haven't looked in years, but hardware stores used to carry the springs as a replacement for a few cents/pence.

I even have a book full of electronics projects which shows how to make a spring reverb from these along with record player stylus magnetic cartridges.
