Anybody using a Jensen Neo 15" speaker?

I'm thinking about swapping out the stock speaker on my Peavey Delta Blues; I was planning to go with an Eminence Big Ben, but I'm afraid it may be a little too dark. The Neo looks like it falls between the Big Ben & the Legend 151 in it's high end, which seems perfect (and the light weight wouldn't hurt). Anybody using one?

Yessir. I gots one in a 1x15 that been the mouthpiece for the 40w Super Rosco. I really love it, it doesn't color the tone just puts it out there as dictated by the amp. In fact, I have a brandy new Weber 15F150 that was gonna go in another 1x15 cab I need to build and instead I'm just gonna go with another JenNeo 15 ... I guess the Weber needs to find itself a new home. In any event, I think the Neo's are very viable speakers and I predict they're only gonna gain in popularity.

Very cool. Rob, how does the weight compare to the Weber, or a Black Widow for that matter?

Also, does the Jensen have any tone qualities similar to a '50s Jensen? We had a Gibson GA-70 Country Western in the shop a few weeks ago, with a jensen, and it was unbelievable. Supreme clean tones, Marshall-like breakup.

Thanks, Rob!

The Neo sounds like a cool speaker, I'm definitely going to try one out in my Delta Blues.

A 15F150 has a 40oz ceramic magnet, the JenNeo 15 has a 7 oz neodymium magnet = at least a 2lb weight saving.

Also, does the Jensen have any tone qualities similar to a '50s Jensen?

What I can say is that the JenNeo 15 is a robust 150watts RMS with a 2.56" voice coil and an SPL of 101.1dB, and I've thrown 15, 25, 40 and 100 watt tube amps at it and it just doesn't color the amp's tone and refuses to fart out or otherwise attempt self destruction. I think that's a real good thing. I've got another on order. A friend has a JenNeo 10 in an 18watt Champ II and the tone and power really woke that amp up. Yeah, I'm a neodymium fan now, for sure.

Well, I bought one last year, but haven't built the cab for it yet. I've gathered all the materials and tools, just need a few more screws to fasten the speaker to the baffle, and for the speaker grill. I will let you know how it sounds, as soon as it's finished.

I am using 10" and 12" Neos right now. Rob's comments are pretty bang on. Especially about them not farting out. I am really impressed how well they handle bass tones.

I have problems comparing them to anything else because they just don't really sound like anything else.

I was talking to a buddy last night, and he mentioned that he had a Jensen Neo 15 stashed in his closet for a future project. He told me I could try it out in my amp for as long as I want. He's bringing it by this morning, and I'll get it installed over the weekend... I can't wait!

I am using a 10" in a Princeton, killer tone and nice bottom!
It is like a cross between a Ceramic and Alnico I think it is the new thing at this time.

Any updates, esp. NEO/151 or NEO/Big Ben comparisons?

12" in a SFDR

I put a 12" Jensen Neo in my 76 Deluxe Reverb and I love it. It handles low end exceptionally well and it is very balanced - solves the ice pick treble problem - I can actually turn the treble knob up to about 5 or 6 without it being too bright. And the light weight is a great bonus - like getting free fries and a drink with your burger.

Just used that amp to play guitar for a local musical production of "Annie Get Your Gun" - with a full band (but a very tasteful, light handed drummer) and it sounded great.

Where is a good place to buy these Neos? I am interested in a 15" 8 ohm one. The usual suspects don't seem to carry them.

I bought my Jensen Neo 15-150 from Antique Electronics Supply; they stock them, along with a lot of other good stuff:

http://www.tubesandmore.com/

I've had the Neo in my Delta Blues for about a month now, and I really like it so far. It's warmer than the stock speaker, but also more articulate, and it takes my pedals well. I haven't gigged with it yet, but I've been really cranking it breaking it in, and it sounds great.

I've also gotta Jensen Neo 12-100 8 ohm. As well as a Eminence Tonkerlite neo.

I also got my Jensen at TubesAndMore.

Comparing the weight and wattage of a Celestion Vintage 30 with the Tonkerlite is sobering:

Vintage30 = 10.4 lbs and 60 watts
Tonkerlite = 4.1 lbs and 125 watts

There's still a lot of traditional magent speakers I like, but I also enjoy a lot of these new neo magnet speakers!!
