Fender Champion 600

Any opinions on the new, vintagelooking Champion 600? I like the design!

We were discussing it before. 6" speaker and it sounds like crap.

I don't know that the amp sounds like crap, just don't expect a wide tonal range from a six-inch speaker! I'd note that it has a speaker out jack, so good sounds can probably be coaxed from it!

Cheers, Tim

Prices just came out on the Fender web site. This one will list for $266 which should give it a street price of about $187. Nice.

On the other hand, the limited edition '57 Deluxe will list for $3,999. Which I suppose makes no difference to me 'cause it is obviously meant for collectors more than for players.

There is a Fender demo video but the man in the video talks more than he plays. Could be a great practice amp!

lol, great review. I hope you're not basing your rating on the Fender Frontline clip that consisted of approximately 4 seconds of guitar playing above the din of the NAMM floor. Nobody has really had the chance to try this amp yet. I'll reserve judgement until I actually plug my Tele into one.

Here's my '49...

I can guaran-damn-tee you that it sounds great with my Tele or any of my other guitars. The 6" ALNICO speaker sounds just fine... I've used it on many recordings!!!

Whoever said it sounds like "crap" is very misinformed.

As for the reissue... I'm sure it can be made to sound just as good.

It looks so damn good I would buy it even if it didn´t work! I guess it is a cool practise amp. I´m gonna pick one up if I can find one at a good price.

I have one.I really like it.It is not very loud and that is fine with me because I just use it as a bedroom amp.Lots of people buying new tubes for theirs and waiting for Ted Weber to reissue the 6" alnico speaker(soon he has promised).Mine sounds fine stock but maybe I am lucky.Sounds great with my Tele,Rick or Les Paul. You can find them at Guitar Center now for $199.99.

I've been playing one at the store for a few weeks now. The thing sounds pretty good out of the box, but throw a couple good tubes in it and it's awesome!!! I plugged it into a Marshall 4x12 purely out of boredom, and it sounds just as good as any other Fender amp out there. Well, maybe not, but pretty darn good!! Two nice tubes and a new speaker will make this bad boy sing.

I tried one at GC yesterday, new out of the box and it sounded pretty good. Used for ~$100 I'd buy one right away. For $200 new, I'd only buy it if I'd have spare $200 as I already have other amps.

I tried it with a relic Strat and a NoCaster Tele they had lying around (really).

With Volume all the way up you can talk over it and it sounds like mild Stevie Ray Vaughan. Not a lot of gain, but smooth and nice sounding, not scratchy. With Volume on 7 it's a nice warm clean tone.

I think it's more a gimmic than a tool, but it's defenitely a cool toy to have.

My recommendation would be to try before you buy, and only order it online without trying if you have $200 spare change.
Then again, if you don't like, I might buy it off of you for $100.
