Can you guys give me some info on Harvards?

I was just curious about the total characteristics of a Harvard compared to the 2 tweed amps I do know the sound which are Deluxe and Champs.

I assume they have some relation to a Tweed Champ based on the circuit number? One I get more clean headroom from one?

Thanks

2X6V6's, 10 watts, 10"...some maybe shipped with 8",
somewhere between the Champ and Deluxe.

The Harvard is sort of like a tweed version of a BF Princeton. It's more "refined" than a Champ, but still sounds "smaller" than a Deluxe.

It's an often-overlooked tweed model.

Mine was a raging beast and weighed nothing.

By refined do you mean a little less gritty at high volumes?

So far it sounds like the type of amp I am looking for. Thanks for the input so far.

Pretty much the same as the Vibrolux tweed w/o the trem. Used a 6AV6 instead of a 12AX7 (Vibrolux) in the pre amp stage. A 6AT6 replaced the 6VA6in later models. (lower gain) Both were interchangable. A nice way to change the voice of the amp. 6AV6=gain. 6AT6=cleaner,more headroom. I'm no expert (got this info from the book) but I've played one and it's my favorite small tweed. Like David said more refined. Actually the least "tweed like" of the tweeds in a good way. My choice for a good jazz amp. A few years ago I had the chance to buy a straight and clean '58 for 9 bills and passed thinking it was a bit steep. Maybe it was but I still think about and regret my decision. Just my 2 cents.

I own a 59 Harvard. Great amp. Lots more definition than a champ, nice breakup after 7. Not really gig worthy unless miked. Incredible in the studio. If I left it alone in a room with my 59 deluxe the deluxe would eat it alive though.

I bought a New 59 Harvard when I was a Teenager...sold it shortly thereafter..cause we thought the more knobs and inputs there were...the better the Amp.....if only........

A 15w Winfield Amps "Harvard", based on the 5F10 but with s/s recto, in a pine cab w/Weber 15F150. A very large sound, lotsa fat tone, breaks up into tweed heaven when pushed Very Hard.
