which speaker for a tweed champ?

Looking at building a 1x10 tweed 5F1 champ using a ceriatone chassis and a weber tweed cabinet.

What would be the best speaker to get? I'd want something that doesn't turn to mush when cranked. Would ceramic be the best choice, or is an alnico speaker an integral part of the "tweed sound"?

I'm thinking if I get a Weber, I'd probably choose an alnico Blue Pup (bright, chimey, aggressive) or Silver 10 (warm, smooth), or possibly one of their Vintage Series 10A100T, which is supposed to be more bright & airy, w/ a later breakup.

I'd be using teles with slightly hotter pickups and playing blues rock.

So which should I go for, or is there a speaker that would work better than the ones I listed?

Alnico is indeed part of the tweed sound. I'd go with a P10R or a Weber equivalent.

Don't get carried away with bright, lest you end up in icepick land.

I also don't want to end up in mush-land. I'll look for something alnico with a later breakup, but not necessarily something bright sounding.

thanks for the tip!

+1 on the Jensen P10R. If for some reason you wanted even less breakup there's always the Jensen P10Q...

BUT...

In a Champ you're more than good with the headroom/breakup characteristics of the Jensen P10R.

My vote is definitely for the Jensen P10R.

The price on the P10R is right too! $63 plus shipping-- a good deal cheaper than the Weber offerings, and probably more appropriate for the application.
