velocette broke

stopped by music store during lunch & they had a trace elliot velocette for sale $240. it is not nearly as loud as it should be. lower than a a pro jr on 1 or any small practice amp. no clean headroom whatsoever. very bad distorted sound. i know what these should sound like & there is def a problem.

should i talk them down to around 150$ & get it repaired or let it go? i know velocettes have issues with transformers

Sounds like it could be a bad power tube... these did have a transformer problem that was fixed at a certain point. That's the only gotcha, figuring out if this ones got the recalled tranny... If you get it for $150 bucks it's worth it. They're killer sounding little amps when healthy.

Low Volume..

Is one of the signs of the bad Tranny..but they claim that that problem has been taken care of in later models..these things are VERY sensitive to duff tubes. I have seen one catch fire!!, and one other that took a half a dozen tubes untill it was stable, and quiet with good volume. They are a nice concept..but problematic.

If it was me and it's not, it's you...at 240 rubles,

you can still pick up a dry Fender Princeton for 240 bucks. a while back I had to take someone in the family to an appointment and found a blackface with a big peace sign on the grillcloth at a secondhand store for the same price that you're being asked to shell out. Also the Peavey Classic 20 is a contendah. Pawn Shops don't give good deals, 2nd hand stores for amps and flea markets for stomp boxes and don't forget yardsales.
