Then there is "This Amp"

Direct from the cow pasture here is the latest production of Platefire Amp Works. Some folks would be ashamed to show something like this but I wear my shame with dignity, Har! For me(and I might be the only one) think it's cool when you can re-work these old peices and utilize the existing features and this one does have some features! IMHO this would be the kind of amp LIL Abner would play at Dog Patch. The circuit is a combination of Fender Deluxe 5C3/5D3---Mostly 5D3 but with a 5C3 (6SC7) phase inverter.
I just felt you amp builders and lovers needed to experiance this to bring your
Guitar Amp 101 up to date. Platefire

Did that start off as a reel to reel?

Okay, Platefire, you win the contest for best use of an upside-down reel-to-reel housing a guitar amp. Too cool! 'Real-to-Real' for sure.

Wow! I'm really surprised that others like this kind of stuff besides me. Thanks!

Yeah it a Revere Reel to Reel that I bought about 6 months ago at a flea market for $20.00. I've had is stashed out in the storage shed and over the Christmas Holidays I took it out to decide what to do with it and as I began to study it the project kind of took on a life of it's own. I'll add
some other pictures of the inside circuitry. It true cluttery point to point. The original tube configuration was 12AX7/6SC7/6V6GT/6K6GT and 6X5GT Rectifier. The 12AX7 and 6V6GT was the only tubes dedicated to audio and all the other was tape recorder related. The original single ended 4 Ohm output transformer was replaced with a push/pull OT form a Dean Markley Spectra combo that had push/pull 6V6's. So all old circuitry was removed--12AX7 was rewired like 5D3 Deluxe except one input, I used the 6SC7 for phase inverter and cathode grounding/bypass like the 5C3 Deluxe but wired the rear of phase inverter like the 5D3 because it is a self balancing circuit (the 5C3 was not self balancing) for push/pull operation to power tubes. Presently I'm using a 12AT7 in the 12AX7 position because I didn't have a 12AY7 on hand and I wanted to cut inital gain down. It sounds real good to my ears with a nice measure of clean head room and nice bluesy grind past 12:00 Oclock on the volume. I used existing old filter cap cans for filtering DC and even though they are original, it is running real quite at this point. It is an amp head only and has to be connected to a seperate 8 Ohm speaker cab.

Oh my gosh, I have the same exact thing! Except mine is a combo unit with a 10" extention speaker!

It's always been on the back burner to restore, it's just that I'm a little intimidated when it comes to electricity and wiring. The cord it came with disintegrated so when I macgyverized it with a newer cord nothing happened, but then nothing happened before I spliced the cord either.

I'll attach pictures tonight or tomorrow

Oh yeah, that's the R2D2, but I'm waiting for the more powerful CThreeP0.

Definitely dig the whole vibe!
