Hey Guy's,I got the 800,and it WORKS!
All it does is like go in and out,and crackle, but it works!$200.00!!
O.K.,so what could it be when it comes on but when you play,it goes snap, crackle, pop, and then fades in and out??

Loose/cracked solder joints on the board,

bad filter caps (by the way, change those (the big blue can things); if they're over 10 years old they can cause big trouble

dirty input jacks

tubes(s) going bad

go here for more help

Solder Joints 9 times out of 10....

Poor quality solder instead of higher content solder. another concession foisted upon the consumer by.....
the suits (wouldn't it be nice if we could catch a few and cane them like they do in Singapore).

First I'd clean the tube pins and sockets - that type of problem can often be due to bad/intermittent contact between the tubes and sockets.

That's step one - if it solves the problem you just avoided a tech visit.

Chris wait !

Silverface is right about what he said, BUT....if you've never done this PLEASE have someone show you how.
Many years back two of my friends that are both techs
got whipped across the room 'cause they lost focus for just an instant (the phone rang, they were working on two different amps 3 feet apart but at the same bench.
Mike is lucky he wasn't killed he was working on a '69 Plexi (the 100). Remember to drain the amp of power there's enough volts stored up unplugged to kill a large person. Please if you've never worked on one watch someone who's a professional, you don't wanna "get bit"
it hurts.

Stan is absolutely right. I usually mention the cautions but didn't this time.

NEVER pull the chassis on an amp if you don't know how to discharge the filter caps. If you don't know how to do it (or especially, if you don't know what that means) leave the thing alone and take it to a tech. Otherwise you can be killed even if the amp is not plugged in.

Welcome to the $200 JCM800 club!

I got mine a few months ago from a friend who was buying a high-gain machine. My amp had problems too. Mostly lots of noise, and what sounded like an internal short. When I got it home, it worked like a charm, aside from a little background hum that gets worse with volume. I'm planning on taking it in for a cap job sometime, and that ought to quiet things down a bit.

It's a great sounding amp. One of the best. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks guy's!

I believe I WILL take it to a tech.
The great news is,my former drummer, now guitarist is getting a brand spanking new Nashville power Tele,so he's offered to pay half the cost to fix the amp, just to let him borrow the amp untill he gets what he wants.
If it sounds too good,he'll be using my JCM 900!
I appreciate apperciate the advise.
One question....
The filter caps and all,are they still suspect if they don't even have a hour of playing time on them? Yeah, their like 12 years old ,but it never went out to be sold.

Yes, age kills filter caps in unplayed amps. In fact, they last longer if the amp is played a lot.

Filter Caps

Filter caps are very much a use em or lose em item. They more often they are charged the longer they last. All my amps get turned on for 5 mins every day whether they are getting played or not.
