Transitional BF Princeton New Acquisition!
I had been looking at BF Princetons & BF Deluxes on the net, checking to see if there were any available "close by" to check out. A few Princetons, very few Deluxes (non verb) were available, those that were 4 plus hours one way drive time away.
Running errands this morning I stopped by a local shop to pick up some strings. There it was! BF, 4 white knobs and it looked as good as the new Peaveys, Kustoms & whatever that was in the shop. Speaker (Jensen) 8th week of '64, trannies late '63 & early '64 plus original two prong power cord. Tube Chart = 6G2, Production 22, NI I have not checked out the tubes yet. I am one happy camper |

JDO, I paid $595.00 plus tax. I think I paid a fair price for it and it is in excellent condition. I found one small tare on the back that I will have to glue down. But, appearance wise, it looks as good as new, no dings around the jacks and no tarnish on the hardware. Checked out the tubes and it is equipped with RCA 6V6 GTs and Tung Sols in the preamp. I checked it out with a P90 Sg Classic at the shop and discovered it was very quiet, no hiss or noise at half volume. I will check it out later tonight at home with my P90 guitars.

Princeton
I used to have an amp exactly like you described. My friend's older brother GAVE it to me in about 1967. I had it for several years and then sold it (Doh!). I remember playing my 1960 Les Paul Jr. (still have THAT!!) through it at full volume for an amazing sound. Back then, I thought it sounded like a mini Marshall. Just a great little amp. Nice acquisition.

What a coincidence!!!
I tried out a bunch of Princetons and Princeton Reverbs today too.
They all needed work for they all had a bad vibration when turned up past 2. The Princetons were BF an SF,the earliest being a '68 and were all priced at $300.00 The Princeton Reverbs were all $400.00 Since I already have a killer Vibro-Champ,I was looking for something with a little more power. As I was leaving I noticed a Marshall Studio 15 mint condition for $300.00 I jumped on it. After I got it home and plugged into it,I realized why I started playing guitar in the first place 17 years ago. I always said that if I ever saw a Studio 15 I was going to buy it. Congrats on your your new baby. Enjoy your new amp,I'm enjoying mine.

You have...
.. a Brownface Princeton in BF clothing. One of the most toneful amps you can get.
Stick in a new baffle board and a 12"..and your eyes will pop out! I've had my '62 Prince since new..and will never give that one up. |
