Marshall in the closet

a buddy of mine who lives out of state asked me to go by his granny's house and get some pictures of an amp he had in the closet. He's thinking of selling it. turned out to be this old marshall. I'm far from an expert at dating and valuing these amps, and i figured i'd check here before trolling a marshall amp forum. anyone know much about these? this particular amp is 100 Watts. he also has a marshall cabinet to go with it.

It's definitely no newer than mid-'75. Without a serial number, that's all I got!

The serial number starts with a letter, which tells you what year it is.

A - '69 or '70
C - '71
D - '72
E - '73
F - '74
G - '75
H - '76
J - '77
K - '78

It's worthless. But I'll give him $50 for it.

Don't know Marshalls real well, but that has to be pre-'75.

P.S. Popthree, sent you a PM re: a classified.

Crap! Sorry, the letter is at the end of the serial number! They changed that in '83 to putting the letter first. That is a '74.

hey thanks tazzboy. it's a '74 model, MKII Super Lead, 100 watt. he also has the 4x12 cab to go with it. i havent hauled the cab to my place yet, but when i do i'll open it up and see whats inside. he said the person he bought it from said it had celestions in it....but if i know my buddy, he's never even looked at it...there's no telling. the grill cloth is RED, i think thats probably not original.

Yeah so from what I read in VG Price Guided Just the head itself would go for $1,400 to $2,000. With Matching cabinet $3,000 to $4,000. I'm assuming that he has a half stack because a full stack would go for $4,500. to $6,000.

if it'll bring 3k he would be thrilled i'm sure. i figure that's a pretty optomistic price though. not sure what to ask. i did find a '73 model head that looked just like it online at a vintage shop in chicago. i emailed the guy and he's asking 1595 for it. this one looks to be in comparable condition. i'll have to take the back off the cab and see what he's got in there. also, i have not tested the amp yet. my buddy said it worked when he parked it. i need to bring it to my place so i can experiment with it.

thanks for checking the guide Tazz ! is that a book you have or an online source ?

Hey pop

How about taking some more pictures of the back and of the serial number and what the tubes looks like if you don't mind.
