Window shopping for a Dr. Z

I have been looking into the the Dr. Z amps recently. I have been looking for an amp that hits that blackface Fender sound (ie DR), but is a bit more aggressive and has a fuller sound. The Z28 seems to fit the bill. Are there any other amps in that price range ($1000 - $1600) that is point to point that has the same type of sound? For tubes, 6v6 or 6L6 style is preferred.

I have not seen much talk about the Webber kit amps. Are they in the same ballpark?

There is a new model Z 6L6 due out in early '07, if you can wait a few months.

This is outside your budget new, but you might scout around for a used one:

I spent a couple hours playing one at a friend's house and it sounded pretty FAT. Hope it helps, CS :-)

I have a bit of time. I still have to sell my JCM2000 1/2 stack before I purchase anything else.

Do you have any other specs on this Dr. Z amp?

The amp I buy will replace my Reverend Kingsnake. I just can't depend on it anymore. I love the tone of the amp.......when it is working ! I will retire it to my basement practice area.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris, but the Carr amps are quite a bit more than I am willing to pay at this time. I would like to buy a new amp if possible. I don't have the best of luck when I get used or demo anything.
