BJr through a 16 ohm cab - safe or not ?

I'm a bit of a novice on these matters, and I have tried to do my own homework by reading many previous posts on the subject which has left me rather confused.

Here's the gig - is it safe to unplug the jack to the onboard speaker of my BJr and plug in a Vox V212BN (60 wats/16 ohm) speaker cab? I know that the wattage is not a problem but I'm concerned about the difference in resistance. I expect it will mean that the output valves will run a little hotter but nothing worse.

Please advise.

I will buzz the output tubes and tranny a bit harder - going into a higher-rated load will affect the impedance reflected back into the primary circuit and tubes. This will make it sound different. If you crank it, it will be stressing the output section and wearing things out a little faster.

Difficult to say how much. If the amps suddenly drops volume or starts humming or buzzing ominously you'd need to power off and let it take a breather.

Thanks Dacious.
A little over my head, but what I think your getting at is that the harder I push the amp the harder it'll make the components work, first sign of trouble - back off!

I think BillM (major Blues Jr guru) says the amp will run 4 ohms all day just fine but 16 isn't so good. I'd ask him if I were you.

Agree with this. I ran my BJ with a 8 ohm ext cab for about 18 months with no problems.

Not so sure abouting upping the ohmage. Would certainly check with the likes of Bill on FDP
