Peavey Classic 30 vs. Delta 2x10...

I'm looking for opinions, which one is fuller ? Any real difference in the tone of these two amps ? What are popular speaker upgrades ?

I had a Fender Blues Jr. for 3 years, sold it for a Vox AC15 (now it's on ebay, financial reasons). I know the tone of the BJ, liked it in general, but found it very "boxy", even with a Weber C12S speaker and JJ/Tesla tubes. The Vox, well...great amp, love the attack and vibe, but I wanted something a little more edgy, more bottom.

Anyhow, Peavey fans give me your thoughts please.

JK

I'm a big fan of Peavey classics. With either one of these amps, you should be able to get more bottom than you would on an AC-15. Peaveys have their own sound that's more middy than Fender and more bottomy that Vox or Marshall combos. If you're worried about boxiness give it a try. I could see someone finding these boxy because they sound stiffer than a Vox or Marshall and middier than a Fender. It's never been a problem for me, though.

I use a Classic 30. Great for the money. Even if money didn't come into it, great.

I have had Marshall tube 1/2 stacks, Marshall tube combos (in the 80's), a 64 Vibrolux, a Boogie studio .22. Saying all that I still have to say the Peavey sounds quite good.

It is a little midrangey though, doesn't sparkle like a Fender and the tone controls are not all that responsive. But still, great.

I like 'em....

I use a Peavey C30 (and an old Harmony, but that's another story) and really like it. One thing about the sparkle, JJ 12AX7s, IMHO, take away what little the C30 has to start with. The EH 12AX7s give a bit more top end. I like the JJ power tubes, though.... YMMV and all that, of course...

I'm happy with the C30, in general. I used to use one of those 80's red-knobbed Twins, but that got a bit big for my basement. My C30 is an old one -- pre-Blue Marvel, or whatever Peavey calls their speakers, mine's a no-name -- I may replace the speaker someday, but I'm not sure what I'd replace it with. I haven't given it much thought.
