Marshall amps..I'm in the Market!!!
I have a really nice Fender Supersonic Tube amp and I am in the Market now for..well I want a Mesa....or a Matchless...but I want that Rage, Tom Morello sound and He plays out of a Marshall head into a Peavy Cabinet...so I want a good Combo 2x12 Marshall amp....I don't know anything about Marshalls as far as Models and prices...but I know I love the Marshall sound and it doesn't have to be a tube amp but preferred...any idea's on what Marshall to buy?

I'd check out the DSL401. It's an all tube single 12" combo, 40W, high-gain and loud as hell in a pretty small package.

FWIW, Morello plays through a JCM800 dual-channel model. A 2210, I believe (that's the 100watt - 2205 is 50). There's a million of 'em out there, and many are combos. The amp has its limitations. It's got a so-so clean channel, and the dirty channel tends to bleed into it due to a design fault, but Morello has managed to sell a few records, so I guess they're not so bad anyway.

Tom actually uses the 2205 50 watt version...there is not another Marshall that has the sound of the 2205/2210...like Ben said the cleans are so, so at best but they are killer sounding crunch heads. If you want that tone you need to just look around until you find one and get it...FWIW, there is one for sale right now on he Ted Weber BB...it's not mine I just happened to see it last night,

what is the Ted Weber BB..where can I find that head. do you have a link? I saw his setup on the guitarworld cd rom demo he put on. Tom goes through his whole setup....very impressive....so I guess I'm in the maret for a Marshall 2205 50watt head

the other guitar player in my band plays the 2205 and it's an awesome head. lotsa folks dismiss these models, and I see where some of the criticism is: The clean sucks. the reverb sucks. They're a bit noisy. But tweaked right, they get the old JCM800 on steroids sound. My biggest beef with them is they're just a bit confusing on the knob layout. the lead channel has a Gain, Volume and Master Volume knob. odd IMHO.
all that said, take a 2204 (single channel 50 atter) and use a good pedal for the same tone, but without the extra noise/hiss.
