I just finished building a spring reverb unit for my acoustic rig.
Inside the tank is a set of springs. Mine has four with two connected end to end so that it looks like two long springs.
At the end of each spring is a very fine wire. Mounted on the wire is a tiny magnet. Surrounding the magnet is a small coil.
It works like this: When the guitar signal enters the tank, it drives the small coil. This alters the magnetic field around the magnet, and the magnet vibrates. This causes the springs to vibrate. The same type of magnet/coil mechanism at the other end of the spring does the oposite. The vibrating spring causes the magnet to vibrate. The vibrating magnet induces a tiny current int the coil. This current is sent back to the amplifier and blended with your dry guitar signal. The signal passing along the springs is slightly delayed. Voila....you have reverberation.
You see lots of adds for digital reverbs. When you compare the two, the springs, in my opinion always win.
