Any of y'all got a Traynor Guitar Mate?

You may recall I want to unload my MM 130 for something smaller, lighter and more manageable. The way prices are running these days for Fender Deluxes, Vibroverbs and Vibrosonics, I don't honestly know that I'll be able to pull together the resources for one. I don't want a HR Deluxe or HR Deville or any other printed-circuit amps if I can keep from it, so I'm considering going outside the Fender nameplate.

Traynor and Sovtek are getting to be some of the last good deals on ptp amps. Who's got a Guitar Mate out there among y'all, and how do you like it? Feedback, please (*eeeeeeee*)

well, I sold a really nice Music Man HD 130 about a month after I got my beloved Traynor YGM-3 Guitarmate....

As TDU will tell you, they aren't THAT much smaller or lighter. Very substantial cabinet! However, mine sounds amazingly good to me, kinda like Deluxe Reverb meets Marshall. Very active tone controls, more so than any amp I've owned, great reverb, trippy tremelo. I put a better speaker in mine (the weak spot on them is the stock Marsland speaker, which, in a word, sucks!) and absolutely love it.

Here's mine:

Cheers, Tim

Tim, I thought it was you that had one. My main question would be in regards to the tone and color of em...it sounds like it's in Deluxe/AC30 territory. Not too worried about the spker, I've got a couple of old Jensen Alnicos, an Eminence and a Celestion V30 lying around.

My tech speaks very highly of them and the mil-spec build quality they have. I just need to test drive one so I can see what they're really about tonewise.

I feel very confident in saying that you'll dig it extremely!

Hey, it still looks like I might be in Austin the week before Thanksgiving, I'll know better as it gets closer (it's a work-related thing, and as such conditions can change!).

Cheers, Tim
