Outboard speakers for a Tweed Deluxe
What would be the pros and cons of using my 5E3 to drive 2 12s?
I'm pretty sure it would be louder (!), but would there be more headroom? What would be a good way to do it? A cabinet with a single 12 run with the existing one? How about a 2x12 cabinet with an A/B box so I could use 1 (the one in the amp) or 2? |

You'd have more headroom because it'd be louder at the same volume knob setting.
One possible advantage of having a 2x12 cab would be impedance matching. That amp uses an 8 ohm speaker, so if you used an 8 ohm cab you wouldn't be working the output transformer any harder. Of course, that might not be anything to worry about! That amp does have an ext. speaker jack, so it oughta be okay. Heck, you might dig using a 2x12 AND the combo speaker, get even more volume! Cheers, Tim
