Anybody try an EL84 in a tweed Champ type amp?
Would it be similar to a GA5 Les Paul Junior or Epiphone Valve Junior?
I know I'd have to buy a THD Yellow Jacket (or similar) adapter. I'm just wondering if it's worth it to try this. I have two tweed Champ style amps (a new Lil' Dawg Champster Special and a Swart Space Tone). I love them both and I'm completely satisfied with their tone. This would be just an experiment and an occasional tone change option if I like the results. |

I believe someone around here just recently tired this, don't think it was a tweed champ though. I'm sure they'll chime in, from what I remember they really like the sound and said there was no noticeable drop in volume so that's good. I have a pair of the Groove Tube version that I used in a 50 watt head and I get some cool sounds out of it. I'm a big fan of EL84's.
