New amps in our house

Wow. Chris bought a VOX AD30VT. Then his brother bought a AD50VT. Last night I went and got another AD30VT.

I have been anti modeling amps until I heard these. A bit of a learning curve, but really useful sounds, and lots of bang for the bucks. Perfect amp for teaching. I don't think I'd gig it, but it sure has been fun finding all the bells and whistles. Rockin' little box!

I'd gig it if I were in a top 40 cover band or something. Having that many amps at your fingertips in one box could be usefull for SOME live projects, even if the digital modeling isn't dead-on like the original.

You've got to have a family-wide amp budget that is staggering! HAHAHA

Thanks for your thoughts on the amp, you're almost convincing me to go out and get one now...

Well, we have had some success with the building biz, and I still teach 4 evenings per week. I'm tired of the limitations during lessons where my standard amp has been a Crate 15 watter with reverb. This Vox opens a ton of possibilities to light up my students, and eclipses the other modeling amps I've seen. It might be useful in recording situations, too. That remains to be seen. There is a line out on the back, (which I haven't fooled with yet), but it occurs that it may be possible to plug that into my Gallien Krueger RB800's effects return. If so, I could conceivably run it at 350 watts rms, biamped through 3 Bag End 15" cabs.. Holy cow...

...Talk about headroom... I'm almost afraid to try it...

You could use that to remove paint from your local bars when you gig with that kind of monster.

Now you definitely have to try it :)

The modelers are just too cool to completely ignore. Sure, they aren't perfect. But when used for quiet computer recording, practice, lessons, etc. they are very hard to beat.

One thing bout the AD30VT is the line out sounds completely different than the the output for the speaker it by passes the tube in the power section.Something to keep in mind when you get around to recording this amp.

Have you tried it? I haven't even checked to see if the line out works yet...

I got some amazing tones out of my AD30VT this week while practicing loudly with the band. The other guitarist was driving a 100 watt Marshall with a Les Paul, and the drummer hits hard.... but I was getting some unbelievable sounds through the AC15 setting with a 72 Thinline RI.

There is definitely a learning curve with these amps, but I'm happy to learn more about it's capabilities the more I push it.

Yea I've tried it sounds nothing like speaker out modeling the tube warmth just is'ent there.I hav'ent tweaked it much but I'm working on it I do have some recording to do this afternoon.

I'm going to try all the models and see witch ones sounds good I'll get back with ya...Have fun they are the best of the model offering so far I think anyway.But thats not saying much.

On a side note: I don't think the 50 is wired the same way you may want to try that one first and then the 30 and see if I am correct.

The biggest problem with the lower power computer amps is they totally get lost in the mix at live gigs. Just buried. The only computer amp I've heard that was able to keep it's head above water at a live gig was a Cyber Twin, and it sounded like poop.

YMMV.

Well I'm not looking to gig the amp I have tube amps for that it just want to record some.
