Eminence Legend speakers?

I just came across a cheap cab on ebay that comes with two USA Eminence Legend speakers and was wondering what peoples opinions on em are? They seem to get good reviews on HC so I've allready got a good first impression. I'm hoping to use them with a Laney GH50L head, which I hear is quite a bright amp so the speakers cant be too bright. Not sure what kinda voicing the Eminence speakers are, though I read one review that says "Mids are great and bass is wonderful, highs are good but not super exceptional, but they also lack the icepick shrill that older and newer speakers sometimes have" which sounds good to me, icepick is ALWAYs bad Another says the speaker gave his amp more depth and growl, which also sounds good. The only thing I was concerned about is that I've only really seem Eminence in "American" amps, whereas the Laney is supposedly more "british" sounding, which typically use Celestions in their cabs I guess..

Cheers for any help

I havent yet found out the actual model number yet from the seller, but are all the models similar-ish in tone do you know?

Would you agree that it has a slightly rolled off high?

Oh.. bugger. Is it bright then like the Eminence found in Fender HRDx? Thats the only Eminence I've had experience with.

Like petebradt says, EXCELLENT.

I recently bought a VOX VR30 and while I liked the overall sound I was shure that it could be improved.
Dropped a Legend 105 in and the results were like night and day.
The sound compared to the stock speaker was more open with an extended frequency range, both in the lows and heighs.
The 105 sounds totaly ballanced and clear, yet warm.

The Legend 105 is THE BEST SPEAKER I have ever found in this price range.

Before the speaker swap, I thought that the VOX VR30 was a very good amp for home usage; now I play it even more than my SF VibroChamp

I have a 2x12 cab with two Legend V12's and I'm most happy with them. I have read that they're supposedly Emi's version of a Vintage 30, but resides more happily in an open back cab than the V30. I can vouch for that, comparing with a buddy's open back 2x12 Tonemaster cab w/V30's. Mine has much less harsh highs, more oomph in the lows.

I'll use it quite often as a cab for my 69 DR, which is loaded with a Weber ceramic Calif - i.e. BRIGHT. Too bright for my tastes, so I'll run that amp into the cab, and disengage the Weber.

I also use it with my old Sovtek Mig50 head, and the Lab Series L11 head with excellent results.

Nice and warm.

Awesome. I think this cab has the V12s aswell. I've read all the good reviews on HC and I think this sounds like a perfect speaker to go with the Laney :D Now, the cab has a gay 80s purply-pink and black colour scheme, is it easy to install a cloth grille?

I have a cabinet with one 12" Legend 121 and one 10" Legend 105, and I love it - very transparent, clear, with plenty of smooth, sprakly treble (not the icepicky kind), and tight punchy bass, mids are smooth, but not dominant; smooth & sparkly seem to be the operative words with my Legends, great for clean playing, probably not the best choice for aggressive high gain sounds...

I have a 151 in my Allen Old Flame. Perfect balance of lows, mids and high end. A guy whose DR I've serviced has the 121. Next to my Weber 12F150, it's one of the best I've heard in a DR. Haven't tried the 105's yet, but I noticed 4 of them in a Super Reverb that Ronnie Earl's crew was loading into the van after a show. Sounded killer during the show!

Got the 105's in my SR and they sound clear and balanced. Not any harsh bright tones here. For the price they are hard to beat.

Legend 121 vs Fender special

If you look on the side of the magnet of the Fender special design speaker, you can see the code for Eminence Legend 121.

Is there somebody who know if the Fender special design speaker is exactly an Eminence Legend 121 or a modified Eminence upon Fender request?

I have plan to buy an extension cab and wonder if the Fender special speaker would be good in this application? I'm sure that a Weber 12F150 is the best but question of money what do you think of it?

Tanks a lot all TDPRI palls,

Well I dont think its the Legend model thats in my HRDx at least, as the seller describes the tone as deep and middy, nothing like the tone I get from my HRDx

Well I won the cab on ebay in the end. £83.99, not bad as the speakers are probably worth that alone :D

Feeling good about this cab now! Cant wait to go pick it up on saturday. I think I'll have to install some handles and a grille, but I have about 2 months till I get the head for it, so it'll give me something to do!
