Best place to find output transformers for SFDR?

Any recommendations for replacing the non-original output transformer on my '73 Deluxe Reverb?

I'm not fussed if it's original or a replica as long as the specs/sound are similar.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks mate, I'll check out their site

BTW, do I have to watch for voltages being in the UK?

Sorry if I'm being stoopid, but I don't want to order the wrong one!....

Opps ! Wow UK . Not sure about the OT then. Allen would be a good place to start.

Do you want the ouput or power transformer? The output transformer is wired to the tube sockets on one side, and the speaker wire on the other.

The power transformer is wired to the cable and plug to the wall socket, almost always through a fuse and the mains switch.

If you want the power tranny, you will need an export 240 volt unit to match your wall voltage. Apart from the Fender DRRI or an old stock version, it's hard to think who makes one. I would find a transformer winder and get one made - you can spec better double-insulated hi-temp wire which many current production versions don't have.

If you want the output transformer, there is no difference as the tubes operate at 400+ volts regardless of the AC version. There are good current production versions still being made by the original company. Triode Electrics and others sell a version quite cheaply and Triode now has it's own version on a paper bobbin, with extra impedance taps and even ultralinear taps if you want to try that.

Someone has to live here!

The only problem with the Allen site is that it's getting me gassing for an Accomplice Still, they look like they have what I need

Yep, it's definitely the output transformer, I just don't know much about how tube amps work yet and didn't want to buy the wrong one

Better to ask a dumb question than make an expensive mistake.

Appreciate the link dude , I'll take a look....so these guys made the originals?

It's pretty widely accepted by many, many techs and players that Mercury Magnetics makes the best trannys, but they also cost more. If you treasure your amp and intend to keep it a long time, I wouldn't think twice about it - spend the extra few bucks. The OP tranny is especially important to your amp's tone. There are many other sources not already mentioned: Mojotone, Hoffman, Ampwares, Angela, TubeToneAmps, and I'm sure there are more.

Cool, I'll check them out too..

I've pretty much brought this amp back from the dead so a few pounds extra now don't bother me, I'm going to be keeping it a loooooooooooong time

Thanks for the tip

Another vote for Mercury Magnetics. I changed the OT and choke in my DRRI. Made a huge difference. I didn't compare prices with some of the manufacturers already mentioned (Allen, Hoffman, Mojotone) so you might get one of those for less money than a MM but I have no regrets.

If you want originality the originals are available pretty much how they were made from a variety of vendors. Angela Instruments has them, as does Hoffman and others. Of course the datestamp will identify that it is not original to the amp.

best bang for the buck

I highly recommend the transformers from Ted Weber. They are reasonably priced but are well made and sound great. I used the DR OTs in a couple amps and am very please with the results.

How do Output Transformers effect tone??

Is a chintzy OT like using too small a gauge spkr wire?
Starves the low end??
One TDPRIer said the small OT on his Pro Reverb
gave his amp a singing quality??

I would agree with Zook that Weber has good transformers there. I've used them and they work great.
