Princeton 65??

I have a Blues Jr. but am thinking about a solid state amp also. Local store has one that was traded in and seems to be in good shape. They want 239.00 out the door? That seems kinda high to me but I cant find any other prices on the net for them?

I also have in my possession a Peavy Encore 110 Transtube, I've been playing around with it for a while and I could probably get it also. I believe he wants around 125.00 for it.
It sounds great through my aerodyne tele with mxr dynacomp, but my MIM tele with nashiville 5/2 pickup doesn't sound too good..

Any suggestions? I've also considered a Vox solid state but no one around here carries them, and I would like to try before I buy....

Thanks for any and all help, what a GREAT SITE!!!!!!

I had the predecessor of the Princeton 65, the Princeton 112 Plus.

I thought it sounded great on the clean side, and it had gobs of really boingy reverb...which I liked, even though most others with the same amp didn't. The drive channel didn't do much for me, but I was using the amp in an A/B set up and had mainly purchased it for the clean tones, so it wasn't a big deal. The one cool overdriven tone that I could coax out of it after much knob twiddling sounded a lot like the rhythm part from the Stone's "*****". But like I said, that was the one cool overdriven sound in the amp.

I don't know if there were any huge circuit changes when they moved from the 112 Plus to the 65...so I don't know how much of my experience applies.

I'd lowball them...offer them $150, maybe $175.

The Princeton 65 is not a bad amp. I had one for a while, but sold it. I see them used out here at GC and other places for around $150 to $180. I think $239 is a bit much for a used one.

i would not buy a princeton 65. I own one. I regret it. Its an okay amp, but it's delicate. I would just save your money and buy something nice.
