Fender Champ

Hi,

I am about to buy a Fender Champ but still hesitating between a VibroChamp (6W) and a Super Champ. Both seem to have a great Fender sound but I am asking myself if I can use the Super Champ for practicizing at home.

Your advice would be helpful.

Olaf

Either way Ya can't go wrong with a Champ that has tubes. Ya heard a LP Std through just a plain dry Champ? 8)

I have both of these amps and I have to say that I hardly ever turn the Super Champ on. It's just got way too much power for the playing in a house and is VERY loud. I do use it to jam with and have gigged with it. But if you're just wanting a practice amp, I'd go with the VC. Plus you'll spend a whole lot less on the VC. You can get a really good BFVC for less that SC's go for.

Actually, for what you would spend on a SC, you could get a SFPR and have Reverb and Vibrato with 12 watts. (SC is 18 watts)

Vibro Champ

The Super Champ and the Vibro Champ are really two different amps.
The VC is a small practice amp..low wattage and small speaker. Sounds good cranked but still not that loud.
The SC is a big amp in a small package. 18w. The prices for SC have jumped quite a bit recently.

Both are great amps but different. Do you want to play out with it or just practice?

Personally, I'd go for the VC. It would be cheaper than a SC, plus quieter for home use and they're great little amps. I love mine. However, if you want to play out with it, the SC is louder, has a line out, etc.

My VC sounds kinda dark and boxy (but not so much that I don't love rocking it out), but I am willing to bet that's because of the 8" speaker. I would love to have a larger cab to run it out of, but I can't justify it. There are guys on the board who have done this and say it's plenty loud enough to gig with so that's a way to go too.

I'd go with the VC mainly because of the price. I scored mine for $95 and some horse trading, but they go for under $300. SC are about double that I think. Then again, I'm broke right now, so that's probably clouding my judgement....

Tim keeps going on about his Champ through a 2x12" so I don't want to steal his thunder, BUT

I run a variety of Champs through a closed back 2x12" w/ Celestion Vintage 30s...

HOLY CRAP - it's mean.
