Do Teles sound best through Fender amps?

I've heard several people say lately that Teles, or Fenders in general, seem to sound best through a Fender tube amp. Its sort of like how a lot of people say Les Pauls and Marshalls are the perfect combo. Do you guys think thats true?

Rubbish

No truth in that whatsoever. Tele's sound good through any amp.
I once had a Twin Reverb where my L.P. sounded better than my Strat did through it. Tele's sound great through Voxes and most "copies", Marshalls, Peavey's etc. etc.
There are so many different types of Fender amp and they don't all sound the same.

Tele's sound good thru...

...pretty much anything. I typically favor most buckers(except Filtertrons) thru any Fender BF/SF amp... my favorite for a tele(with single coils) is typically something with a bit more mids... Brown Fenders, Vox, Marshall type amps. Tele's absolutely kill thru my 18 watter (Mini Plexi).

Kinda makes ya say, Hummmmm?

Best is entirely relative... Your "best" may give someone else the heaves, thus if ya got good equipment, it's gonna sound good under any circumstances.

Wait!... My "good" may make someone else writhe in horror.. so ya better use your "good"

I use a drop of Barge cement. It's a hide glue with rubber cement in it, available at most Ace hardware stores. You can still get it off when you need to.
Or a little bit of paper folded over the top of the metal, before you push the plastic on.

Pursuant to the discussion at hand:
Since most tube amps are derived from Fenders (or at least the same RCA Tube Applications Manual Leo used), the Fender sound in various forms like tweed, Blackface, etc., are available from many companies, along with British versions like Marshall.
Even Mesa/Boogie started with a Fender: just hot-rodded it.
Some sound more Fendery than others, if by Fender sound you mean that bouncy 6L6 bottom, and crisp high end sparkle in the clean tones.

My teles sound equally good through my Mesa Boogie Road King, Genz Benz El Diablo and Fender Deluxe. Each excells in different areas, but still sounds completely fantastic.

I agree with SteveY--Marshall was launched off of the 59
Fender Bassman 5F6A circuit. Leo pretty much defined popular modern amp sound and everything seemed to develope from that---however whan I play in a small enough room I love the way my tele sounds through my Silvertone 1482 or Gibson GA-40. Gibson and Dano's were following their own drummer on amp design but again they wasn't as popular as fenders. The adding of the Negative Feedback Loop (NFB) by Leo taken from hi-fi amp design help bring amp development from the brown tweed tone to the clean surf sound in the blackfaces and latter silverface fenders. Many amp builders now days are making the NFB loops in tube amps switchable that allows you to go from a tweed tone to more clean fender tone at the the flip of a switch. In fact the development of tube amps are at an all time peak with added features to get the most versatile arrangement. Nevertheless---The power to move a tele will always be in the hands of the player regardless of what amp used. I wish I was better in this department, Har! Plate

+1+1 on the Dr. Z amps. They absolutley kill!!!! Just listen to Brad Paisley, tele with a Dr. Z hotrodded prescription amp and a I think route 66 together. I dont remember now but it has a demo clip of Brad when he tried out the new Dr.Z amp at the Z factory and has some history with it. :)

IMHO......!

Tele's sound great through almost any Fender or Vox!

Les Pauls sound GREAT through a Fender Twin.

Not a Marshall man - never played a Tele through one.

Throughout the creation process, Fender guitars have been tested on Fender amps. Gibsons on Gibson amps. It only makes sense that the match between the two (guitar and amp) is incredible. They've been fine tuning the two in conjunction.

Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 50 Half Stack

This is my main amp. I have played Teles through Fenders, Music Mans, Ampegs, etc., all of which sound great, but in my opinion, my Teles sound best through this amp. The Marshall JCM 2000 series are amazing, the best amps Marshall has made. It's interesting, many people my age (40's) are going to smaller combo amps, and I just got a new Marshall!!! Seriously, Teles sound fab through Marshalls!

No hard and fast rules here. Some Teles will sound great through some Fender amps while others will favor Marshalls. Add your own preferences to the mix and you've got some shopping to do. I always bring my own guitars when amp shopping. I love to shop!

I agree, Teles sound great thru just about anything... Fenders, Marshalls, Silvertones, Oahu, Supros, Valco, Airline, Gibson... you name it, a Tele sounds great thru 'em all. Gibsons seem to, at least for me, like Fender amps best... I play blues, soul and R&B.

The one amp I didn't like a Tele thru, or any other guitar for that matter, was a Dr. Z... ugh! Tight, bright and brittle.

YMMV.

Sorry for the sidetrack question, but this peaked my curiosity.....

John E, what is a mini plexi (18 watt)??? Is this a marshall? Can you still buy one?

Back to the topic. I think it really depends on what type of music your playing. Those who like country would probably prefer a cleaner running amp like a Fender twin etc. Those who like hard rock would probably like more of a marshall or high gain sound.

regards,

Bill

Do Teles sound better through Fender amps?

That's like asking if the best color for a car is red isn't it?

It all depends on the player. But I would wager that most people playing Teles are playing through something other than a Fender amp. Not because of how a Fender amp makes a Tele sound, but because everyone's idea of what sounds good is different.

It's the rare amp that doesn't work well with teles. As far as
