Thoughts on the Celestion G12 Century Vintage?
I've got a clutch of speakers, but I'm interested in building a "super portable" open backed 1x12" for small gigs, auditions, and jam sessions.
Not for recording, or anything like that. Basically it's one sole purpose is loud portability. It'll be in a 3/4" pine open backed cab for extra lightness. 1. How "Vintage" does it really sound? 2. Would you guys recommend some other speaker for my "portable cab"? 3. How does this speaker sound in a variety of amps? I've got old circuit Tweed Fenders, a Marshall (an EL84 Vox/Marshall type of 36watt build coming up), etc... Will this speaker be "moderately OK" sound-wise for Country to Metal in a "portable cab" scenario. REMEMBER, I already have "real" speakers for recording/studio situations. |

Excellent speaker for live use
I have one in an SJB Ant which is kind of like a tweed deluxe, and i have used it unmiked with a 4 piece band.
It definitely would make sense to keep one in a seperate cab for when you want some extra power with a small amp
